On your plot this month:

August

courgettes
This is the time for harvesting – a season of plenty.

You’ll be wondering what to do with your gluts of courgettes and beans! But don’t forget to prepare for winter crops. And if you want to leave some parts of your plot uncultivated over winter, you should sow green manure.
Harvest: Calabrese, courgettes, dwarf and climbing beans, peas, mangetout, the last of the broad beans, summer salad leaves, potatoes, spring onions, radish, baby turnips and beetroot, Swiss chard. Fruit: raspberries, plums, early apples.
Seeds: Fennel, lettuce, Chinese cabbage, oriental salad, kohlrabi, radicchio, radish, spinach, Swiss chard, turnip, kale and green manure.
Plants: Kale, spring cabbage, winter cauliflower, fennel, pak choi.
Next month: Spring cabbage, winter cauliflower, kale, onion sets, over-wintering lettuce and spinach, strawberry runners (new little plants).
