GO2 Bluebell
Spring Welcome event at GO2 Bluebell. Sunday 1st April.
Our usual volunteering Sunday and foodshare lunch, with the volunteering focused on helping new members get started with growing.  (‘New’ members includes those who joined in the autumn.)  Existing members, please come along to meet the new members, chat about crops that work for you, lend a hand with their spring digging and planting, etc.  There will be a short talk/Q&A for new members at 10.30am to discuss how things work at GO2, repeated at 11.30am. Foodshare lunch at 1pm as usual.
March Sun and Snow
The sun may be shining today but, with a forecast of near freezing temperatures and snow in the next week, the soil is likely to be too cold for sowing any seeds yet.  However, there are signs of good things to come.  Early rhubarb has started sending up shoots, purple sprouting broccoli is sprouting and the early potatoes, Orla, are chitting in the big shed ready to be planted once the soil has warmed up.  There are broad bean, parsnip and early pea seeds in the shed too but again, wait till the cold spell passes before sowing.
In the greenhouse, the lettuce, Brussel sprouts and next spring’s purple sprouting broccoli seeds sown last week have germinated.  If all goes well there will be lettuce plants ready in mid April.
